Oral Communication - Speech

Millennial Generation

Good afternoon parents and teachers. Today, I’m going to talk about the millennial generation. Millennials? Surely we’ve heard of it before. But what exactly is this term “Millennial generation”? The most common misconception of millennials is they are those who are born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s but actually Millennials are from the 1981 to 1996. While our generation is passable as millennials, we are already in the generation of “post-millennials”.
Surely what I’m saying are just bunch of years and numbers but there’s more to what Millennials actually are. Just as the saying “Change is the only constant thing in this world”, as time progresses the generation also progresses. Millennials now are not like the other previous generations, because there are some factors that makes millennials, different.
One is the influence of the internet. Millennials nowadays tend to be so dependent on the internet sometimes it gets unhealthy. Unlike before, people can go on without internet for a day but now, I don’t even want to talk about it. Yes, I’m guilty of this but it’s a millennial thing.
Another is the social media craze, especially “Facebook”. I know you parents also have Facebook accounts but it’s not as active as the millennials’ use it. Social media can also help develop “pop culture”. I’m sure a very few here knows who “BlackPink” are, or know the meaning of “walwal”. You see, most millennials have a very advanced thinking.
But what’s really different about millennials is that they are strong. Depression can attack us anytime, we tend to think about giving up. Millennials want to be seen as strong and positive, but sometimes, we don’t need to pretend who we aren’t. Yes, we can be internet-dependent, we are entertained most of the time but sometimes entertainment can’t hide what we really feel deep inside. The feeling of emptiness, the feeling of being alone, the feeling of pressure and the feeling of giving up. We are imperfect, but that’s what makes us perfect and different.
At the end of the day no matter which generation we come from, Millennials are human too. Yes, the way we think, the way we act and the way we live sometimes vary but the way we feel never changes.
